SEU 2025 Psychological Monitors Movie Event Successfully Held

On the evening of December 21, the 10th "Bonding Through Film, Warmth on Winter Solstice" psychological monitors movie event, organized by the Mental Health Education Center of Southeast University, was successfully held across six campuses: Jiulonghu, Sipailou, Dingjiaqiao, Wuxi, Suzhou, and Jiangbei. Over two hundred psychological monitors from all campuses participated in the event. Faculty members from the Mental Health Education Center, including Zhu Wanling, Zeng Taosheng, and Chen Yifan, attended and facilitated the gathering.

Prior to the screening, the faculty reflected on the university's tradition of hosting this Winter Solstice movie event and extended sincere gratitude to the psychological monitors for their dedicated efforts over the past year. The Winter Solstice marks the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere; yet, it is also from this day onward that light gradually grows. In this sense, the psychological monitors serve as beacons of light within this long night, consistently radiating warmth and hope. During the screening, the audience responded with laughter and thoughtful silence as the plot unfolded. Coco, set against the backdrop of Mexico's Día de los Muertos, follows the journey of Miguel, a young boy who pursues his musical dreams and unexpectedly enters the Land of the Dead. In this journey spanning life and death, he uncovers family history and comes to understand the essence of love and memory. Through its vibrant visuals, moving music, and profound emotional depth, the film explores themes of memory and forgetting, conveying the heartwarming philosophy that "death is not the end, but forgetting is."

Following the screening, students engaged in sincere and insightful discussions about the film. Some focused on the tension and eventual reconciliation between dreams and family expectations depicted in the story. Miguel's passion for music was initially constrained by family tradition, yet his perseverance ultimately led to acceptance by his loved ones. This resonated with the idea that family members often impose restrictions not out of a lack of love, but from a desire to protect us from hardship. However, what truly matters to family is not making choices on one's behalf, but offering understanding and standing by one another during moments of uncertainty or setback. Such support can prove more powerful than any advice. Other students reflected on the film's portrayal of memory and forgetting, drawing parallels to their roles as psychological monitors. In real life, many emotional struggles and feelings of loneliness stem from a sense of being forgotten—whether overlooked in the busyness of daily life or drowned out by surrounding noise. As psychological monitors, while we cannot resolve every issue, through genuine listening and consistent companionship, we can help each student feel that someone is present, someone is waiting, and someone remembers them. This sense of "not being forgotten" itself constitutes a powerful form of psychological support. Some also reflected on the film's theme of familial memory and legacy, expressing aspirations for their roles. The Winter Solstice movie event has now been held for a decade at SEU. Much like Miguel inheriting his great-great-grandfather's song, today's psychological monitors carry forward the warmth and commitment of those who came before them. May this warmth continue to flow within each of us, and may psychological monitors persist in helping their peers with dedication and professionalism.

The Winter Solstice psychological monitors movie event has spanned ten years, evolving into more than just a student activity. It represents a heartfelt commitment shared by the Mental Health Education Center and the psychological monitors to engage in psychological support and safeguard mental well-being. It is hoped that all psychological monitors will continue to treat others with sincerity, becoming a warm presence in each other's memories, ensuring that no heart is forgotten or left to feel alone. Moving forward, the Mental Health Education Center of Southeast University will continue to empower and support the growth of the psychological monitors team through diverse lectures and training sessions, working alongside them to reinforce the foundational support for campus mental health.
