Psychological Activities on Enhancing Self-Efficacy Successfully Held

On December 6, the “Empower Yourself” mental wellness event, hosted by the Mental Health Education Center, held simultaneously at the Taobei Canteen and the Meiyuan Canteen. There were five activities, covered approximately 1,500 students.

At the Cognitive Tuning Station, students transformed irrational beliefs such as Im sure I cant do thisinto more constructive ones like I may not be able to do it yet, but I can try again, and paired them with a small actionable plan. This helped them shift from being problem bearersto solution makers”—a true cognitive restructuring. At the Sheep Praise Station, students filled a message board with sincere compliments for themselves and others, boosting their self-esteem and sense of mutual support.

During the tanghulu (candied fruit) making activity, students coated fresh fruit with rich milk skin. With guidance from staff, they personally completed the transformation from ingredients to dessert. In the resin craft session, flowing resin slowly took shape in their hands, becoming unique keychains and bookmarks. For the 3D puzzle challenge, flat metal pieces were carefully assembled step by step into delicate phoenix coronets, Yi-style silver crown fridge magnets, or characters from TV dramas. Through these hands-on activities, students gained a strong sense of achievement and enhanced self-efficacy.

A brief pause is never a retreat, but rather a moment to gather strength for moving forward.Self-efficacy is the accumulation of "I did it" experiences. At the core of this activity, as Bandura's theory of self-efficacy suggests, genuine confidence never emerges from a vacuum; it is built through the accumulation of countless small moments of accomplishment. From cognitive restructuring to positive feedback, from hands-on creation to successfully completing challenges, every segment helped students gather evidence of their own capability, allowing the seeds of confidence and initiative to take root.
